A Son’s Goodbye to His Mother — Wesley Dawson Negrón (2020)

When you return to the ground
I shall be forced to love our entire planet much more than I do currently,
which is already in excess of what I admit to in polite company.
I will live without knowledge of which hummingbird,
which cactus, which grain of sand may be concealing your smiling eyes,
your thin gold bracelets, still jingling at a frequency only grains of sand can hear.
This state of affairs will leave me little choice but to regard all of life
with absolute reverence and utmost respect.
